some castles had yagura kuruwa , mizute-kuruwa (a small lot in a castle , including a well or reservoir ), tenshu-kuruwa , nishi no maru (a castle compound to the west of the main compound ) (retreat for daimyo ' s old age ) and so on . 城によっては、櫓曲輪・水手曲輪・天守曲輪・西の丸（大名の隠居所）などが設けられることもあった。
